Hello CV Locals, happy Thursday!
We hope you like cycling! The Tour De Palm Springs is this weekend so expect blocked roads and less than normal parking in the Palm Springs area. The weather should be a balmy 83 degrees with a slight breeze coming in from the gulf, and you should probably reserve ahead for that Val/Galentine’s day date if you have not already.
If you are new here, The CV Scene delivers just the right amount of news and events for locals of Coachella Valley. No crime, no politics, no spam—just the good stuff. We scan newspapers, blogs, social media, business journals, and Google alerts so you don’t have to.

Prescott Fire Scorches ~100 Palms, Contained Quickly

A 3.5-acre blaze at Palm Springs’ Prescott Preserve (between Farrell Dr. and Compadre Rd., south of Ramon) lit up just after 2 p.m. on Feb 1, jumped from brush to palms, and was contained within a couple hours with help from Cathedral City and Cal Fire. About 100 palm trees around the pond were impacted (the bridge is intact); no injuries reported. Portions of Farrell and Compadre were briefly closed, and trails east of Farrell are shut until further notice. Cause is under investigation, with Oswit Land Trust saying early signs point to a human-caused start (not drought; the preserve is “healthy and green”). Crews remained on scene for mop-up Sunday evening.
