Hello CV Locals, happy Thursday!

Did we feel the earthquakes? More than 200 quakes ranging from .5 to 4.9 magnitude struck Coachella Valley on Tuesday, with the initial temblor just north of Indio. No major damage was reported, fingers are crossed that “the Big One” will wait until at least after the Season is over.

If you are new here, The CV Scene delivers just the right amount of news and events for locals of Coachella Valley. No crime, no politics, no spam—just the good stuff. We scan newspapers, blogs, social media, business journals, and Google alerts so you don’t have to.

New Pair of Gems Quietly Open in Palm Springs

The former Alibi space at 369 N. Palm Canyon Dr. is pulling double duty: downstairs is SoCal Sunset, all soft, breezy Cali vibes with co-owner Felipe de la Torre urging first-timers toward the braised boneless short ribs, a hefty pork chop, one of the house pastas, and—don’t skip it—the tiramisu; climb the stairs and you’re in After Hours, a moody, speakeasy-leaning bar that swaps sun-kissed for sultry (yes, the neon telling you to “live your best f*ck!$& life” sets the tone), but still aims to welcome everyone from the young to the not-so-young. Alongside its cocktail list, After Hours slings late-night bites—think poke nachos, ceviche, sliders—and it’s run by Felipe’s 23-year-old son Jaime with his Rancho Mirage High crew (Pedro, Fernando, Mikey).

PSAs:

  • Health Run Road Closures: If you are driving near Ruth Hardy Park in Palm Springs this Saturday morning (Jan 24), be aware of road closures for the annual Health Run & Wellness Festival. It’s a huge local turnout, so plan your brunch commute accordingly.

  • Coyote and Mountain Lion Sightings are on the rise:
An adult mountain lion was recently spotted in the 500 block of Vista Chino Palm Springs, and the next 5-6 weeks is mating season for coyotes. Please be vigilant when outside with pets and small children. If you encounter a mountain lion or other wildlife, sightings should be reported directly to the Wildlife Incident Reporting System at wildlife.ca.gov.
